Junior Schools kick off the 2018 Tournament

19 Mar 2018

Day One of the 2018 Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools 7s got under way with 137 teams competing in the Junior Schools competition, which saw a fantastic standard of Sevens in challenging conditions.

On an exceptionally cold day for late March (and with a dusting of snow on the pitches in the morning), 23 groups of 6 teams played some fantastic rugby, especially given the conditions.  In accordance with RFU age-grade guidelines, there is no knockout phase in the Junior competition and each school plays all the other teams in their group.

14 teams managed the fantastic achievement of winning all their games throughout the day: Whitgift, Solihull, Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin, Portsmouth Grammar School, Prince Henry’s Grammar School, RGS High Wycombe, New Hall, Brynteg Comprehensive, Emanuel, Ivybridge Community College, Ysgol Gyfun Bryn Tawe, St Cenydd’s, and Ysgol Dyffryn Taf.

As well as the action on the pitch, there was an appearance from Wasps, England and Lions star Elliot Daly.  Keep an eye out for other big names throughout the week too!

Tomorrow it’s the turn of the U16s in the early stages of the Colts competition. You can see all the action from the showcase pitch on our live stream from 10am with commentary from Nick Heath and Dave Rogers.
