SIR GAR CROWNED 2012 ROSSLYN PARK HSBC NATIONAL SCHOOL SEVENS OPEN CHAMPIONS

30 Mar 2012

Sir Gar from Llanelli took the 2012 Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools Sevens in convincing fashion with an impressive 26-0 win over Whitgift today.

The Welsh school impressed throughout, putting out reigning champions Filton College and the impressive Millfield on the way to the Final. And the eventual 2012 Champions completed a trio of wins over former winners beating Whitgift in the final with a dominant 26-0 win. The Welsh school stormed to a 12-0 lead by half-time with patient play on the ball leading to the pressure eventually paying off.  And in the second spell they piled two more tries on their opposition to end up 26-0 victors.

Sir Gar head of rugby Euros Evans was full of praise for his side saying: “We were in the tough side of the draw and Whitgift gave us a really tough time but we did enough to get over the line.

“It’s been ten years in the making and I’m just so proud of the boys.

“It’s been a really tough tournament but it’s the pinnacle of schoolboy Sevens. The boys were challenged both physically and mentally but we’re just so chuffed.”

RFU Junior Vice-President Bob Reeves was on hand to give the winning side the trophy and he was hugely impressed by the standard of Sevens on show. He said:

“I last came to the Rosslyn Park Sevens twenty years ago and it’s completely changed. All the lads are in great condition with fantastic skill.

“The standard of the play has been superb and the players are clearly very well coached. They are from schools that take their rugby seriously and congratulations have to go to the winning school.”
