Sedbergh lifted the first trophy of his year’s Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools 7s, defeating an outstanding Clifton College side 19-7 in the final to become Colts Champions.
To reach the final, Sedbergh had secured a relatively comfortable victory over Tonbridge 21-5, while Clifton left it late to score a stunning try with the last play of the game to defeat last year’s champions, Wellington College.
In the final, Sedbergh were clinical with their finishing, taking their chances to run in three tries before the break to lead 19-0.
The second half saw relentless pressure from Clifton, but an unyielding Sedbergh defence only eventually succumbed to a single consolation try at the death.
Although an extremely organised team unit, Sedbergh also possessed outstanding individual talent; none more than James Naylor who received the Akuma Player of the Tournament award.
Today also saw the early rounds of the Vase (U18) competition, with 18 teams making it through the elimination round to reach tomorrow’s quarter final pool games.
Tomorrow, the early rounds of both the Cup (U18) and U14 Tournaments will get under way. You can see all the action on the showcase pitch with our live stream from 10am with commentary from Nick Heath and Dave Rogers.
